St. Timothy's Track and Field Places 1st Runner Up

St. Timothy's beat all odds and placed second place among the 19 IAAM 'B' Conference Track and Field teams, setting two conference meet records en route. This season, three of St. Timothy's athletes have also earned bids to U.S. Nationals.
Individual scoring was led by Genevieve C., who swept the 3200 m, 1600 m, and 800 m for the third year in a row, beating her conference record in the 3200 m with an 11:18.  Karmen M. was close behind, obliterating the meet record in the 100 m with a 12.31, and following that up by winning the 200 m in commanding style. Sonia P. added critical points in the track events, placing third in the 3200 m and 1600 m and picking up 8th in the 800 m.

In the field events, freshman Amarah M. won second place in the shot put, while Darenique R. finished ninth in the conference.

The St. Tim's relays really punched above their weight. Leading off was the 4 x 800 squad of Alisha B., Yichen Y., Kaylah G., & Catherine C., who posted a huge PR for every athlete to grab the sixth place slot. Next up was the 4 x 100 relay, comprising Jasmine B., Camryn B., Fife O., & Karmen M. going against the advice of their coach, they spent all week mastering blind handoffs -- a double edge sword that can lead to smoother exchanges, but runs the risk of catastrophe. They proved Coach Kativhu wrong with handoffs like butter to crush their heat, placing third overall.

Only leading St. Vincent Pallotti by a few points going into the final 4 x 400 relay, an exhausted but determined squad comprising Kaylah G., Sonia P., Karmen M., & Genevieve C. annihilated their PR by five seconds, snagging second place, and cementing an instrumental lead over SVP, securing second place in the conference in St. Timothy's third year competing in track and field.
